Calligraphy Room

Hints of patchouli, oud wood, and bamboo.

Inspiration:

This scent was created as a dedication to my grandfather, who taught me calligraphy in his little studio every summer I'd visit Taiwan.

He's an incredible artist and teacher. You could always find him there on the top floor writing, where we'd spend hours grinding down ink sticks or practice holding bamboo brushes until our got indents in fingers. On a good day we'd try different calligraphy styles from each dynasty or maybe stamp our jade signatures everywhere with rouge paste, but my all time favorite was when he'd guide my brush to show how each character brush stroke should move — complete with goofy sound effects. Whenever I'm in back in Taiwan and in his studio, without fail the smell of musty ink, humid typhoon air, and drying brushes flood back these amazing moments my grandfather and I shared together.
