Hints of tomato leaf, sunflower, and black tea. Smells like summer, earth, and ripe perfection.
The tomato garden is where my mom would spend her free time. When we were little, we'd play out in the front yard while she played in her garden (keeping tabs on us of course!). I don't think there was a single time she wasn't wearing her boat hat with the funny chin strap or humming to herself while tending to her second children. To say she was devoted to them is an understatement.
She truly loved keeping that garden, whether it was watering or repotting or trimming — she was good at it too. Everyday she'd excitedly bring home a new basket of freshly picked, sun-kissed tomatoes that would fill our kitchen with a beautiful, earthy-sweet aroma. Now whenever I smell tomatoes or tomato vines, I can see her in her in the garden, wearing her little hat and the biggest smile, gathering all the ripe tomatoes to bring home to us.
